Areas of Expertise

1. Foundation Pile

Bored Piles

Bored piles (Replacement piles) are generally considered to be non- displacement pile where a void is formed by boring or excavation before piles is produced. Piles can be produced by casting concrete in the void. Some soils are particularly amenable to the formation of piles in this way, since the bore hole walls do not requires temporary support except cloth to the ground surface. In unstable ground, such as loose sand the soil requires Temporary support by means of casing or Suspension fluid such as Bentonite. Alternatively the casing may be permanent, but driven into a hole which is bored as casing is advanced. Generally STROMEK execute bored piles ranging in diameter from 60cm to 250cm extending to maximum depth of 50.0m . Being non displacement type piles, bored piles can be installed with little or no vibration, and with much lower noise levels.

CFA Piles

CFA (Continues Flight Auger) is one of the cast in situ replacement piles using the soil as a temporary supporting for the drilled hole by drilling a hollow. Stem auger into
the ground to from the pile diameter. Ready mix concrete is pumped into the hole as the auger is removed, eliminating the need for temporary casing or slurry. After the
auger is removed, reinforcement cage is installed. Generally STROMEK execute C F A piles ranging in diameter from 50cm to 75 cm extending to depth up to 16.00m.
C F A can be installed quickly and inexpensively.

2. Earth Retaining

Sheet Pile Wall

Sheet pile wall is commonly used as a temporary retaining wall system. The suitability of sheet pile to be used is generally influenced by the following factors

  • Soil condition and the case of pile installation.
  • Depth of excavation.
  • Water tightness.
  • Ability to withdraw temporary sheet pile after used.
Soldier Pile Walls (Soldier Piles & Horizontal Lagging)
  • Soldier pile wall has two major components; soldier pile (vertical component) and lagging (horizontal component).
  • Soldier pile installation resistance is quite similar to the sheet pile.
  • Soldier pile is normally used for small shallow excavation in soils above ground water table as a temporary support.
Contiguous Pile Wall
  • Contiguous pile wall can be both temporary or permanent wall for excavation. Usually, contiguous pile wall is used where low water can be achieved.
  • The advantage of contiguous pile wall are lower cost and speed in construction for temporary or permanent wall where drilling conditions are conductive. The system has higher capacity to overcome obstruction like work compared to other systems. However additional works are needed to from an acceptable surface to the wall.
Secant Piles Wall
  • The major disadvantage of contiguous piles walls is the lack of water tightness has been effectively overcome by interlocking as in secant piles wall. Other than water tightness secant piles wall has similar advantages and disadvantages as contiguous piles wall.
  • This method consists of boring and concreting primary piles at center to center spacing of slightly less than twice the normal pile diameter, secondary piles are then bored at mid –distance between primary piles before. Concrete has achieved its full strength. Reinforcement is usually concentrated in secondary piles.
  • The main advantage of the secant pile is the possible full temporary protection in sensitive and ollapsible soils and ease of coring into rock.
